25/1/2005

Always one of the highlights of the English summer season, ‘Glorious Goodwood’ looks set to hit even bigger heights in 2005, with demand for tickets greater than ever before. The five day Festival Meeting (26-30 July), attracted crowds of over 100,000 in 2004, but with Gordon Enclosure ticket sales already up by 150% compared to this time last year, racegoers should waste no time in booking for this historic meeting. Hospitality sales are also well up on last year, with an increase of 46% over all five days.

On Friday 17 June Goodwood Racecourse will host a brand new event – the Mid Summer Black Tie Picnic. On the last of Goodwood’s three Friday evening fixtures, which coincides with the penultimate day’s racing from Royal Ascot at York, the historic Richmond Lawn will provide a perfect setting for this most English of summer pastimes. The evening will begin with a champagne reception and specially prepared Goodwood hampers will provide racegoers with a veritable feast. The stunning views over the Racecourse and South Downs beyond will ensure that the six-race card can be enjoyed in unforgettable surroundings and candles will be lit as the sun sets. Tickets are priced at £50.00 per head, based on bookings of four people and including VAT.

For the first time in two years, there will be a Raceweek Ball for Richmond Enclosure members and their guests on Thursday 28 July. The scene of lavish parties and elaborate entertainment for over 200 years, Goodwood House provides a unique social focus during the Festival Meeting. Tickets are priced at £125 per head, including VAT.

Said Managing Director Rod Fabricius, “the record demand to attend the Festival Meeting proves that the public is aware that 2005 is the year to visit Goodwood when Royal Ascot moves to York. Our two major events (the Mid Summer Black Tie Picnic and Goodwood Raceweek Ball) are synonymous with the Goodwood style and will provide the perfect accompaniment to a wonderful summer of first-class horseracing.”
