Kieren Fallon is Top Jockey at Goodwood Kieren Fallon just came out on top in a three-way photograph to be the top jockey over the five days of the Glorious Goodwood meeting. He, Martin Dwyer and John Egan all had three winners, but Fallon came out on top after a countback for placed rides. This was the fourth time that Fallon has won this particular prize, as he also took it in 2003, 1998 and 1997, but his score of three is the lowest winning tally since Steve Cauthen was successful with just two in 1984. Fallon’s three winners were Gift Horse in today’s Vodafone
Stewards’ Cup, Afrad in After he had been presented with his award by Lester Piggott, who received a great reception from the spectators, Fallon said: “It is always very nice to win a prize like this at a big meeting like Goodwood, and although none of us talks about it during the meeting, we are all thinking about it. “The highlight of my week is winning the Vodafone Stewards’ Cup, even if I may have said that it was one of the worst races I have ever ridden. I had a terrible time trying to get outside Eddie Ahern and I almost needed a machine to get me out. “The racing here is always very competitive and it is all very tight - the toughest meeting of the year. Though I won the big race today, it takes away from the pleasure of winning if you know that you have not ridden a good race. “While it is nice to be top jockey at the meeting, a total of three winners in a week is pretty quiet for the book of rides I had. Three winners in a day is the sort of thing you should start getting excited about.” There was a sting in the tail for Fallon who was suspended for one day (August 10) for careless riding on Wise Dennis in the Vodafone Thoroughbred Stakes. 2005 LEADING JOCKEY AWARD LEADING TRAINERS |
