Henderson won the 2010 award thanks to more placed horses than Nigel Twiston-Davies, who saddled an incredible 747/1 treble on the final day with Imperial Commander taking the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, Baby Run winning the Christie’s Foxhunter Chase and Pigeon Island scoring in the concluding Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase.

Reigning champion trainer Paul Nicholls saddled a double at The Festival in 2010. Nicholls has been leading trainer at The Festival six times and is fifth on the all-time list, despite only saddling his first winner at the meeting in 1999.

Ireland’s most successful current trainer at The Festival remains Edward O’Grady with 18 wins, although Willie Mullins, another handler to have two winners in 2010, is now only one victory behind his fellow countryman.

Leading trainers who have yet to taste victory at The Festival include Tim Vaughan, Peter Bowen, Nick Williams, Gordon Elliott, Milton Harris, Paul Webber, Neil Mulholland, Lucinda Russell, Brian Ellison, Charlie Longsdon, Rebecca Curtis, Ian Williams and Nicky Richards.

THE THOMAS PINK LEADING TRAINER AWARD

The Thomas Pink Leading Trainer Award is decided on the number of winners trained over the four days. If there is a tie, it will go down to the number of second places. If there is still a tie, the number of third places will be taken into account and the award will be shared if there remains a tie after that.
