Ghurair Pointed at 2000 Guineas after 2YO Trophy Win 1 Ghurair 7/4F Trainer John Gosden says Ghurair will be aimed the 2000 Guineas next season after coming out best in a battle with Havana Gold to claim the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy at Newmarket.
A close fifth when last seen in the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, the twice-raced Ghurair was sent off the 7-4 favourite and was soon prominent as the field raced down the centre of the track. Quickening nicely to lead at the two-furlong marker, Paul Hanagan's mount asserted from long-time leader Race And Status, but Richard Hughes soon joined issue on market rival Havana Gold and after a battle to the line there was only a head in it. Winning trainer John Gosden was adding in excess of £250,000 to his prize-money haul to strengthen his position as favourite for the trainers' championship. He told Racing UK: "We put him away (after Goodwood) and he's grown and filled out, he's run a lovely race and they've come away from a really smart maiden winner (Race And Status). "Sometimes these sales races can be a little bit false in terms of form, but I think this was solid form. I don't have many two-year-olds at this stage I would be putting with him. Let's hope he is a horse for the Guineas here next year, I think that would be logical."
