First Minister Alex Salmond to Present Ayr Gold Cup
11/09/07
TOP quality horse racing, fabulous prizes, a visit from Scotland’s
First Minister and special guest appearances from the MacDonald Brothers
and Ben Mills just some of the highlights of the up coming 2007 totesport
Ayr Gold Cup Festival at Ayr Racecourse.
The
three day meeting which gets under way on Thursday September 20 and
runs until Saturday September 22 has a few firsts this year:
- It’s
the first time prize money has hit £500,000
- Chart topping acts
in the shape of the MacDonald Brothers and Ben Mills appear after racing
on Friday
- First Minister Alex Salmond will present the totesport Ayr
Gold Cup on Saturday
- The £20,000 Audi sports car on offer in the
Ladies Day Final on Saturday is the biggest prize ever at such an event.
Advance ticket
sales look like beating last year’s record total
and more than 22,000 are expected to attend over the three days.
The biggest day on day increase is likely to come on Ladies Day Final
on Friday with 28 girls trying to land one of the fabulous prizes which
include the star prize of a silver metallic Audi A3 1.6 sports car
finished in black leather courtesy of the Ingram Motoring Group.
Runners up prize is a perfect diamond valued at £2,500 courtesy
of Oghams of Ayr and Edinburgh and third prize is a luxury trip for
two to Dubai for three nights courtesy of Stewart Travel and Emirates
Airlines.
The 28 ladies who have won a silver coin leading up to the final will
draw a number out of a hat. The number will correspond to the number
of a runner in the totesport Ayr Silver Cup and the holder of the horse
that wins or is placed second or third will land a fabulous prize.
To add to the glamour this year star guests the MacDonald Brothers
and Ben Mills will mingle with the finalists before performing live
after the last race.
And the great news for ladies is that there are still several silver
coins to be won. Ladies attending on Thursday (September 20) and on
Friday will have a chance to impress the mystery judges and claim a
late place in the final.
The news that First Minister Alex Salmond is to present the totesport
Ayr Gold Cup to winning connections on the Saturday is a real feather
in the cap for the Ayr management.
Racecourse General Manager William Gorol said : “It is a real
honour for Scotland’s First Minister to be on hand to present
the Ayr Gold Cup. Alex Salmond is a real horse racing fan and I am
sure he will have a most enjoyable day.
“This year’s three day Festival has something for everyone.
Horse racing aficionados can enjoy quality racing, music fans have
the added attraction of the MacDonald Brothers and Ben Mills appearing
while our Ladies Day provides a really glamorous day out.”
