Across the board increases totalling £85,000 have been made to 11 races to ensure that no race at the Royal Meeting is run for less than £55,000.

Until 1945, the only racing that took place at Ascot was the Royal Meeting and many of the races run at today’s Royal Ascot featured in the earliest meetings. The oldest race is the Gold Cup which was first run in 1807 when it was won by Master Jackey, a three year old who had already won a race at Ascot twenty-four hours earlier.

Royal Ascot to return home in 2006

The Duke of Devonshire, Her Majesty’s Representative and Chairman of Ascot Racecourse, today confirmed that Royal Ascot will be back at its Berkshire home for 2006. The Royal Meeting will run from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th June 2006. The official opening of the racecourse will take place on the first day of the Royal Meeting.
