In a typically frantic renewal, it was Elmonjed who emerged from the pack with perfect timing, landing the spoils for William Haggas and Jim Crowley in cool, calculated fashion.

Drawn on the far side—where the action would ultimately unfold—the four-year-old travelled smoothly throughout, biding his time as the field jostled for position. With the gaps opening just when needed, Crowley seized the moment, driving his mount into daylight approaching the final furlong.

Though the finish was tight, Elmonjed always looked to have matters in hand, holding off a wall of challengers to justify 9/2 favouritism and give punters something to cheer.

Jubilee Walk, Rock Opera, and Rousing Encore chased him home, but the draw told its tale—all four placed horses emerging from the same far-side group, which proved the place to be.

The performance didn’t go unnoticed by the market makers either, with Paddy Power trimming Elmonjed into 12/1 (from 16s) for the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood—a race where timing, once again, will be everything.
