After finishing third in the same race last year following his victory in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot, Archie Watson’s Bradsell had a disrupted season, only making his return earlier this month.
Despite this, Bradsell showcased his impressive sprinting ability with a comeback win in a Listed event at Deauville. Backed at 3-1 for his return to Group One level, he proved to be the best under Hollie Doyle’s guidance.
With a perfect lead from the rapid Czech raider Ponntos, Bradsell took control inside the two-furlong marker. Doyle glanced across the course to check on her rivals and saw that Bradsell was in full command, ultimately winning by three-quarters of a length.
Believing finished strongly to take second place, with Starlust and the Australian favourite Asfoora close behind in third and fourth.
Trainer Archie Watson commented on Bradsell’s journey, noting the colt’s fractured fetlock in February and the remarkable recovery that followed. He praised the vets for their exceptional work and expressed amazement at Bradsell’s achievements, especially considering his purchase price of £50,000.
Watson also highlighted his partnership with Doyle, emphasizing the significance of their shared successes and the strong bond they have developed over time.
