Tanzeel (James Doyle riding for Charlie Hills) wins the SkyBet Dash at York
The jockey, who was completing a double after winning the opener on Chain Of Daisies, was hard at work on the Charlie Hills-trained four-year-old, but the 11-2 favourite responded in game fashion.
Taking the lead inside the final 100 yards, Tanzeel went two lengths clear of Shore Step (10-1) in second.
Al Khan (50-1) was half a length further away in third, with the pacesetting veteran Tangerine Trees (50-1) fourth.
Doyle said: "He's a nice horse with a big future.
"He just rolled around a bit when I asked him at first and I was a bit outpaced early so I was trying to teach him mid-race.
"When I really got stuck into him, though, he took off.
"I'd say he's got some big days ahead of him.
"The same connections took this route with Muthmir last year and we know what he is capable of on his day."
Tanzeel was cut to 10-1 from 20s for next Saturday's Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood.
