Lake View Lad won for the second time since being bought by owner Trevor Hemmings when seeing off his old adversary Captain Chaos.

A 2lb pull for a two-and-three-quarter-length beating in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle was not enough for Captain Chaos, who was again put in his place by the Nick Alexander-trained eight-year-old.

Henry Brooke always had Lake View Lad nicely positioned in third place, as Captain Chaos led from Wakanda, before making his move in the straight.

Hitting the front between the final two fences, the 5-1 chance pulled clear on the run-in to score by four lengths. Takingrisks snatched third spot by a nose from Wakanda.

“I was very pleased with him. He’s a very honest and brave horse. It was very good to win off a weight like that,” said Alexander.

“He’s improving. We’ve always given them plenty of time to come to themselves and you often get paid back in the end if you do the right thing by the horse.

“Now Mr Hemmings has bought him I’m very much in their camp. I’m delighted to be part of that camp.

“They have plenty of good horses and we will fit in with what they want to do.

“He might end up in a Grand National. Who knows where he will end up? But as long as he’s all right we’ll just keep pottering away with him and find another race before too long.

“It is fantastic to win a race like the Rowland Meyrick.”
