Restless Harry Stays on Strong for John Smith's Hurdle 1 Restless Harry 7/2F Restless Harry finally landed the big pot he has so often threatened when running out an emphatic winner of Wetherby's John Smith's Hurdle.
After banging his head against the likes of Big Buck's and Grands Crus last season, he found this company far more to his liking. Robin Dickin's charge helped set the pace with dual winner Fair Along then kicked off the home turn and nothing could get near him. It was an accomplished ride by Henry Oliver, enjoying the biggest success of his career with a 20-length winning margin from Fair Along. What A Friend stayed on for third. "I always thought he could win one of these races and we delayed going chasing for today," said Dickin. "The ground has been so hard at home I just haven't been able to school him on the grass, but almost certainly his next run will be over fences. The sky is the limit if he takes to fences and on heavy ground I wouldn't rule him out of the Arkle." Sarah Hobbs, wife of trainer Philip, said of Fair Along: "The winner is two years younger and was getting weight. We're thrilled with him again but he's better off over fences so he'll probably go back in a handicap chase next." Oliver later doubled up on Sue Smith's fine prospect No Planning (8-1) in the Bulloughs Cleaning Services Novices' Hurdle. Smith's husband Harvey said: "His owner couldn't get planning permission for a house, that's where the name came from. We'll see what the handicapper does."
