Robert Tart was almost lost for words after Cunco provided him with a rare moment in the limelight when swooping late to win in style.
Although the build-up to the Group Three had centred around Monarchs Glen, one of three runners in the mile-and-a-quarter contest sired by Frankel, it was to be the horse that provided the former 2000 Guineas hero with his first winner as a stallion that would steal the show.
Anchored in rear, the John Gosden-trained 5-1 shot came with a steady run to get on top close home and edge out Intern by a head, with his stablemate Monarchs Glen finishing a disappointing fourth.
Tart said: "I can't thank Mr Gosden and the team enough for this opportunity. It's my first Group ride, let alone my first Group winner. All credit must go to Mr Gosden.
"He is a true gentleman and there are not many around. I have got so much respect for him and the team at home. It has not even sunk in yet. I am still a bit numb."
Gosden said: "He is a tough first foal. He is not very big, but he has got a heart as big as a lion. He has run really well in all his races.
"I was thinking of going to the Chester Vase and I might still go there with a Group Three penalty."
