1st 1 Bushranger 15/8 Fav Bushranger struck gold for Ireland with an impressive win in the Group 1 Shadwell Middle Park Stakes following up on his victory in the Prix Morny at Deauville in August, scoring in a new two-year-old course record time of 1m 9.56s. The Danetime colt sealed a memorable day for young Irish trainer David Wachman, who also saddled 32Red.com Cheveley Park Stakes third Pursuit Of Glory. Wachman, who trains Bushranger for his father-in-law John Magnier and partners Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, said: “He’s a good horse and he won very easily today. He’s getting better as the year’s going on.” Like the filly Pursuit Of Glory, a trip to the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Santa Anita on October 24 and 25 could now be on the cards for Bushranger, who is 16/1 for next year’s stanjamesUK.com 2,000 Guineas with the sponsor. Wachman continued: “He’s in all sorts of races but the owners have a lot of horses so we’ll just have to see what happens. “He’s very straightforward and definitely stays well so I’d have no hesitation in stepping him up to seven furlongs. There are plenty of options open to him. “He’s in the race back here [the Darley Dewhurst Stakes on October 18], he could be a possible for America but Aidan [O’Brien] has a lot of good horses. “Bushranger has won two Group Ones now so perhaps it is somebody else’s turn. We might have to sit one out.” Johnny Murtagh, Bushranger’s partner in the Group One Shadwell Middle Park Stakes, commented about the winner who also broke the course record: “He’s progressing all the time. David told me he was the banker at Royal Ascot but I didn't really know him and probably hit the front a bit too soon down the middle of the track. I learnt a lot from that and he's a smart horse who is going the right way. "He is very professional and an easy ride. He has got a nice neck on him and he is a great solid two-year-old who knows his job well.”
DARLEY DEWHURST NEXT FOR HUNTDOWN Trainer John Gosden was “delighted” with the effort of Huntdown after the colt finished third under Frankie Dettori in the Group one Shadwell Middle Park Stakes. The 9/2 shot came home three and three-quarter lengths behind the victorious Bushranger. The trainer said: “We’re thrilled with that. Frankie said he stumbled leaving the stalls which left him two lengths down on the front two and he was always playing catch-up. He wants seven furlongs now and we’ll train him for the Darley Dewhurst. “It didn’t help that he almost fell on his head but he has run a great race and I’m delighted.” Peter Chapple-Hyam was equally pleased with 5/1 runner-up Sayif, who went down by a length and a quarter to the Irish-trained winner, under Jamie Spencer. Chapple-Hyam commented: “He’s getting better all the time and his work has been a whole lot better lately. He’ll improve again as a three-year-old. “We could aim at a Lingfield maiden in March and then come back for one of the trials before the StanJamesUK.com 2,000 Guineas.”
