THE KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN SUN CHARIOT STAKES 30th September 2006 1st 8 Spinning Queen 12/1 Spinning
Queen Springs 12-1 Shock
SPINNING QUEEN turned the form book on its head when she bolted up by
nine lengths in the Group One Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes. The 12-1 outsider of the five runners jumped out promptly to grab the
far rail and never lost pole position as she routed a field that included
three Group One winners. Winning trainer Barry Hills said: “The plan was always the Challenge
Stakes. She really didn’t get a mile in the early part of the year. “She got beaten her in the King Charles II Stakes in this sort of
ground - she didn’t handle it. “She didn’t really like the soft ground that much today but
you have to take these animals on. If you are not there, you can’t
win. “But we got the script right today because they were all hold-up
animals. She had a good draw and got the rail. The plan was to let her
do her own thing. She had got the race won two furlongs out. “She is tough and tries very hard. But she has always been a good
filly and run some solid races. “The Breeders’ Cup is something you could consider. If you
get a filly that is improving, they can go on and do lots of things. “She has got better for racing - she is more relaxed than she used to be. “She was unlucky not to be a lot closer in the Cherry Hinton and the Rockfel.” Michael Hills, the winning rider, said: “The boys told me that she
was in top form. It is a funny time of year and some of the others have
had hard seasons. “She moved like a dream to the start and has calmed down in her
races. We made a new plan - to make the running - and it worked. “We checked her back out, found something and made her happy. A happy horse is a good horse. I have always been sweet on her - she ran well in the 1000 Guineas.” 3.10pm KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN SUN CHARIOT STAKES 1) SPINNING QUEEN (Marston Stud & Cavendish Investing

Heading the entries are star older performers Soviet Song and Alexander
Goldrun, who between them have won 10 times at Group One level.
Soviet Song was last seen finishing a gallant second to Court Masterpiece
in the Group One Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on August 2. Her trainer James
Fanshawe also has Musicanna, third in last year's renewal, entered again. The Jim Bolger-trained Alexander Goldrun lost out by the narrowest of
margins to Ouija Board in a sensational finish to the Group One Nassau
Stakes at Goodwood on August 5. The five-year-old has not run over a mile
since finishing second to Soviet Song in the Group One Falmouth Stakes
at Newmarket in July, 2005. Peeress, who took the 2005 running on testing ground, could bid for back-to-back
victories for Sir Michael Stoute, who also has Echelon and three-year-olds
Cantabria and Wasseema entered. Speciosa, the memorable winner of this year's Stan James 1000 Guineas
at Newmarket in May, could bid to give her trainer Pam Sly another big
race triumph, while the Dermot Weld-trained Nightime was impressive when
landing the Irish version at the Curragh from Ardbrae Lady, although she
disappointed behind Nannina in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on
June 23. The Clive Brittain-trained Rajeem caused a 50/1 upset when landing the
Group One UAE Equestrian & Racing Federation Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket
on July 12, while Confidential Lady, victorious in the French Oaks at Chantilly
on June 11, could represent Sir Mark Prescott, along with stablemate Violette. Ireland's champion trainer Aidan O'Brien is responsible for three entries, with last year's dual Group One winner Rumplestiltskin, Queen Cleopatra and Race For The Stars, and Godolphin has the quartet of Dubai On, Pure Illusion, Silca's Sister and Vista Bella engaged. Mandesha and Impressionnante, first and second in the Group One Prix d'Astarte
at Deauville on July 30, are the two French-trained entries, while Sexy
Lady, winner of a nine-furlong Group Three event at Maisons-Laffitte on
July 2, is trained in Germany by Peter Rau. Other fascinating contenders include the Michael Bell-trained Red Evie, who made it six wins on the bounce in the Group Three Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on August 4, and Bosset, trained by Jeremy Noseda, who landed her second win from three starts in the NSPCC Family Day Handicap at Newmarket on July 30. |
