He saddled eight...and Richard Fahey is rewarded by 1st, 2nd and 4th in Weatherbys Super Sprint
Trainer Richard Fahey saddled a one-two in the extremely valuable Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury as the 28/1 shot Lathom edged out Mr Lupton (25/1) in an exciting finish.
Three big-priced runners fought it out and Lathom finished really strongly to claim the spoils by a neck under Tony Hamilton, with Field Of Vision (33/1) a nose further back in third.
The 22 runners spread across the track and Hawatif showed the best early pace on the far side, only to be overhauled by well-backed favourite Excessable (2/1) a furlong and a half out.
The market leader looked to have gone a length clear at one point but the complexion of the race changed dramatically in the final half furlong as the principals on the near side charged past to fight out the finish.
Fahey saddled no less than eight in the race as he looked to follow up his 2013 success and Lathom proved best of the octet, bouncing back from a below-par Royal Ascot effort to get up close home.
And Fahey also saddled the fourth-place finisher as the maiden David's Duchess belied her odds of 50/1 with a fine effort.
Winning jockey Hamilton reported: "He was electric from the gates and I could sit where I wanted.
"He travelled well and it was all about looking for a bit of room. We got a lead and he picked up nicely and did it well.
"I ride a lot for David and Emma Armstrong (owners), so I was always going to ride this horse."
