Dodging Bullets looked like giving Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob a double following the earlier victory of Calipto when he touched down with a narrow lead, but long-time leader Module proved a stern opponent in the Grade Two contest, registered as the Game Spirit Chase.
The Tom George-trained 11-8 favourite got his head back in front on the run-in for Paddy Brennan and held Dodging Bullets' renewed effort by a neck.
Brennan told Channel 4 Racing: "He's a good horse. I'd been through this race all night and this morning and I knew what I was going to do. I didn't think I'd have to dig so deep. I thought I was on the best horse, but on that ground it was hard work.
"He jumped good. I was slightly disappointed with him in the Peterborough Chase, but he's proved he's a good horse and hopefully it's onwards and upwards."
George added: "He's in the Queen Mother and the Ryanair. I'll have to talk to the owner about it but I'm starting to get interested in the two-mile race, especially in a fast-run race.
"I thought he was unlucky at Exeter (in the Haldon Gold Cup), then maybe he'd just had a hard race when he came back at Huntingdon (in the Peterborough Chase).
"He's got a high cruising speed, but he can't show it on that ground. He will stay further, though. We think he'll get three miles one day."
