Supplicant Strikes in Mill Reef Stakes 1 Supplicant 7/2J Richard Fahey saddled the first and second in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury with Supplicant leading home stablemate Rufford.
Winner of his last two races at Ripon, including a Listed event, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned youngster appears to be on a rapid upward curve. Despite winning jockey Tony Hamilton losing his whip in the closing stages, Supplicant quickened up smartly to win by three-quarters of a length. The winner was sent off the 7-2 joint-favourite, along with Richard Hannon's Shamshon who was ultimately well beaten. Speaking from Ayr, Fahey said: "I'm delighted with both horses. It got a bit tight close home and he had to be professional but he won well in the end. It's a little bit embarrassing finishing second but that's great as well. "We thought before this if he won we'd go for the Middle Park, but he'll have to be supplemented as it was trainer error that he wasn't put in - to be fair, I didn't think he'd be there but he's improved in leaps and bounds."
