Moohaajim Classy in Mill Reef Stakes 1 Moohaajim 5/2F The Marco Botti-trained Moohaajim produced a high-class performance to take the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury.
The Adam Kirby piloted youngster was fifth on just his second start in the Prix Morny behind Reckless Abandon, when not enjoying the best of runs, and was sent off as the 5-2 favourite to gain compensation. Master Of War soon grabbed the rail and bowled along for Richard Hughes and at one stage it looked very likely that Adam Kirby, recording a double after Black Spirit, would have to sit and suffer on the strong-travelling market leader, but Kirby managed to find a gap and the response from his partner when he asked the Cape Cross colt to quicken was immediate. The race was soon over, with a length and three-quarters the official margin from Master Of War. Botti said: "He was a bit unlucky in France and we thought he deserved another chance in good company. Adam said it was straightforward, they didn't go quick but he showed a tremendous turn of foot. "He's in the Dewhurst and the Middle Park, and the ground will be key as he wouldn't want it too heavy. I imagine he will stay over here to run in the top races next year and I think he should stay a little bit further." Richard Hannon said of runner-up Master Of War: "I think the winner is pretty good as Richard (Hughes) said he thought he had got them all beat. But he has run well and he is a nice little horse."
