Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore continued their sparkling run of form by landing the race for the second year in succession with Cameo.

The Ballydoyle partnership dominated the Chester May meeting, winning all five feature races, and after Amelia Earhart emerged as Oaks favourite on the Roodee, O’Brien may have uncovered another leading Epsom contender as Cameo justified support at odds of 100-30.

With Charlie Appleby’s 11-8 favourite Romantic Symphony failing to make an impact, Cameo tracked stablemate Bloom into the straight before quickening clear of Andrew Balding’s staying-on Prizeland to score by four and three-quarter lengths.

Betfred cut the winner to 12-1 from 40-1 for the Oaks, while Paddy Power introduced her at 10-1 for the Irish equivalent.

O’Brien was not present at Lingfield, but stable representative Chris Armstrong watched the race from Naas and said after an earlier Ballydoyle success: “She was very impressive. Obviously Tom’s filly suited making the running and Cameo got a lovely lead into the race.

“In fairness to her, when Ryan asked her to pick up she really stretched away. Wayne rode her first time at the Curragh and felt that stepping up in trip and getting better ground would suit her. She got both today and was very impressive.

“She’s a lovely big, strong, imposing filly and she’s right in the Oaks picture now.”

Moore was equally taken with the performance and said: “Today was the first time I’ve ridden her. She’s a scopey filly who handled the track well and did everything right.

“She picked up nicely from a long way out and kept going. She’s a filly who will improve as the season progresses.

“She’ll keep progressing and you never know where they might end up, but I loved everything she did today and I’d say there’s plenty more to come.”
