Annacotty ran his rivals ragged to spring a surprise in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase at Kempton.

A course-and-distance winner and wearing blinkers for the first time, Annacotty came home 10 lengths clear of Green Flag. Just A Par, the 8-13 favourite, was unable to keep tabs on the first two and was well beaten.
Popham said: "The blinkers have really sharpened him up. Today, even when he was in tight, he was very quick. He's toughed it out. It's tough conditions out there. I couldn't believe how far clear I was two out."
Keighley said: "That's my first Grade One winner, it's fantastic. We always thought he was a good horse and his win round here last month was really pleasing. He was a bit disappointing the next twice and we thought he was keeping a bit for himself, so today we put the blinkers on. He's gone well with them on at home and he's a relentless galloper. He got them at it one by one."
When asked if he could be a horse for the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, Keighley, who moments later was on the mark in the Lincolnshire National with Merlin's Wish at Market Rasen, said: "He stays very well, you'd have to look that way now. He goes on any ground."
