Baby Mix Back in Triumph Hurdle Picture 1 Baby Mix 4/1 Baby Mix got his JCB Triumph Hurdle prospects back on track when winning a competitive race for the William Hill-sponsored Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton.
Tom George's charge had made a winning British debut over jumps at Cheltenham, only to disappoint back at Prestbury Park in January, but booked his Festival place when getting the better of fellow Triumph hopeful Sadler's Risk. A mistake down the back straight did Baby Mix (4-1) no harm and he led into the straight under Paddy Brennan after Dark And Dangerous had taken them along. Sadler's Risk, the 11-10 favourite, tried to close on the run-in but was still two lengths down at the line, with Dark And Dangerous another 14 lengths away in third. Brennan said: "His jumping was a lot better and I just let him get on with it. He made one little mistake, but I was very happy with him. We'll enjoy this and then look forward to Cheltenham." George said: "I think it was a combination of things last time - he was too keen, he didn't settle, and his jumping went to pieces. We've really just gone back to basics with him. "He seems much happier at home and I guess he's got back in the betting for Cheltenham now. Good ground there would be fine, but I don't think he'll mind what it's like. We are just looking forward to March." Philip Hobbs, trainer of runner-up Sadler's Risk, said: "We came here hoping to win, so it was a bit disappointing, but he ran a good race and hopefully Cheltenham will suit him better." |
