The only three-year-old in the line-up beats his elders and makes it five wins from 10 career starts in our near-£160,000 feature for @karl_burke, @CliffordleexLee and Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum pic.twitter.com/TNadkJOSUu
Clifford Lee displayed remarkable composure aboard Ice Max, seizing a late victory at Goodwood.
Earlier in the season, Karl Burke’s gelded son of Dark Angel showed promise but faced setbacks in tougher races. However, he made a triumphant return on the Sussex Downs, thriving in challenging conditions to edge out Simon and Ed Crisford’s Poker Face, who led early but faltered.
Starting at 5-1 odds, Burke was optimistic about Ice Max’s chances once the rain began and was delighted to see his horse claim Group Two honors. “The more rain that fell, the more confident we were,” Burke remarked. “He is a progressive, talented horse and when he learns to settle better, he will stay further. We are delighted with his performance.”
