Siskin Tops Betting To Win Sussex Stakes
Irish 2000 Guineas winner Siskin has opened up as the 7/4 favourite in the ante-post betting for the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
Ger Lyons’ runner justified going off as the 2/1 favourite for the Classic at the Curragh earlier this month. He showed an impressive turn of foot in the closing stages of the 1m contest to score by just under two lengths. The talented three-year-old colt is now five from five on the track. He won the Grade One Keeneland Phoenix Stakes last season and the early signs in 2020 suggest he is in for another exciting campaign.
Siskin took on the distance of 1m for the first time at the Curragh and he had no stamina issues. He was given a patient ride by Colin Keane and once the gap arrived for the horse, he was too quick for his rivals.
The Sussex Stakes will be the chance for Siskin to take on the older horses for the opening time in his career. Three-year-olds do have a good record in the race and that was kept up in 2019 when Too Darn Hot landed the spoils for trainer John Gosden.
Siskin will be bidding to repeat what Kingman did in 2014 by winning the Irish 2000 Guineas and the Goodwood contest in the same season. Those two wins helped Kingman land the Cartier Horse of the Year award in 2014.
Due to the delay to the start of the Flat season, the big races are coming thick and fast so it is worth checking today’s horse racing results from Paddy Power to keep up to date with all the winners. It is unlikely that Siskin will run again before Glorious Goodwood as that is the next major festival on the British and Irish calendar.
Queen Anne Winner Circus Maximus to Lead Challenge Against Siskin
Circus Maximus is the biggest danger to Siskin in the Sussex Stakes, according to the bookmakers. Aidan O’Brien’s runner won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and is 9/2 to follow that up with victory at Glorious Goodwood.
The four-year-old has now won three Group One races and has accumulated over £1 million in earnings. It is then no surprise that he is proving to be one of the most popular horse racing tips for Glorious Goodwood.
His outing at Royal Ascot was his first appearance in 2020. He was involved in a battle with Terebellum in the final furlong at the Berkshire racecourse. With Ryan Moore in the saddle, the pair prevailed by a head in front of Frankie Dettori’s mount after going off as the 4/1 favourite in the betting.
The son of Galileo is an experienced globetrotter now. Over the last 12 months, he has featured in three different countries, including France where he was the winner of the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp last September.
This year’s Glorious Goodwood is set to take place from 28th July through to the 1st August. The Sussex Stakes is scheduled for the second day of the festival.
