Champion trainer Mullins further extended his hegemony in Fairyhouse’s Bobbyjo Chase, where his talented jumper Acapella Bourgeois soared to glory over stablemate Bellshill.
The ten-year-old was in imperious form with Danny Mullins in the saddle, picking up his maiden victory since Clonmel in March 2019 as he eyes up an entry to the Grand National on April 4.
Acapella Bourgeois struggled in his last showing at Gowran Park’s iconic Thyestes Chase but he returned with a bang in County Meath this weekend, building valuable momentum with the countdown to Aintree intensifying.
And Mullins, who has now enjoyed five consecutive victories in the February Fairyhouse trademark, was in jubilant spirits as he watched one of his entries successfully navigate his way to the line first.
"Everything went right today – he had his race won after the second-last,” he said.
"I think Aintree is coming down as favourite – we might split them up [Acapella Bourgeois and Total Recall]."
