❤️ What an exciting prospect! BAY CITY ROLLER stays unbeaten after a tough win in the G2 Betfred Champagne Stakes! 🇬🇧 A son of New Bay, he’s 3/3 after his debut win in a British EBF Novice at Sandown. Big race ride by Callum Shepherd! pic.twitter.com/h5Iwv0nUH1

Bay City Roller showed great determination to win, narrowly defeating Monumental, after the unfortunate withdrawal of Chancellor.
Chancellor, trained by John and Thady Gosden, had previously won maiden and novice races at Town Moor and placed third in a Listed race at Ascot. He was highly anticipated to perform well again in South Yorkshire. However, he had to withdraw after bursting open his stall prematurely and suffering a cut to his mouth.
In the race, Bay City Roller, with odds of 9-2, surged to the front over a furlong out and held on tenaciously to secure a third consecutive win for trainer George Scott and jockey Callum Shepherd. Monumental, trained by Aidan O’Brien, mounted a late challenge but fell short by half a length.
Trainer George Scott praised Bay City Roller, highlighting the horse’s genuine nature and consistent improvement. Scott mentioned considering the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at ParisLongchamp as a potential next race, noting the horse’s suitability for the track. He also expressed relief and satisfaction with the horse’s performance, having recommended its purchase to owner Sheikh Nasser.
Scott is contemplating two more races for Bay City Roller this year, possibly including the Futurity, and is optimistic about the horse’s future prospects.
Jockey Robert Havlin explained Chancellor’s withdrawal, stating that the horse was calm in the stalls but reacted when another horse kicked the gate, causing him to burst through and injure his mouth. Havlin expressed disappointment, as the race conditions were ideal for Chancellor.
