The Jim Bolger-trained Turret Rocks (7/2) was a good winner of the Group Two 1stsecuritysolutions.co.uk May Hill Stakes under jockey Kevin Manning.

Brought to the lead inside the final furlong, the daughter of Fastnet Rock kept on stoutly for pressure to record a three quarters of a length success.

The trainer also thinks another step up in trip will see the two-year-old to the best of her ability. He said: "This filly stays well and is pretty good. The mile will have helped bring out a bit more improvement after the Curragh race over seven. She ran well there that day and the really good pace and step up to a mile would have helped her even more.

"Ideally she would like to go further to a mile and a half so she is a filly for next year over that distance.

"She gets most of the stamina from the dam's side which is by Galileo and she comes from a good family which includes Goldikova so it is a staying pedigree.

"This is just the start of things to come for her. I had two fillies entered in the race, one for fast ground and one for soft ground, and the top of the ground horse won it."

As for the filly's future, plans are still up in the air as to where she goes now. Bolger added: "I don't know where we will go with her next. I was thinking about going to Paris before this race but I don't know about that after this. I have a good bunch of two-year-old fillies so I have a lot to choose from."

Kevin Manning remarked: "I was rowing away at her three and a half, four furlongs down but you know that, when you pick her up and change hands, she is going to keep lengthening and go to the line.

"I think that she is really a three-year-old and you will see the best of her when she steps up in trip next year. I would be very surprised if she didn't get a mile and a half. She had her ears pricked at the line and wasn't doing a great deal."

Trainer Richard Hannon was happy enough with the performance of Marenko, who finished the three quarter length runner-up behind Turret Rocks this afternoon.

The 10/1 shot made the running for the majority of the race and looked to have her rivals in trouble as the field hit the furlong pole but she couldn't quite repel the challenge of the Jim Bolger-trained filly, who stayed on well to land the Group Two contest.

Hannon felt his filly stayed the trip well and thinks there will be plenty more to come from Marenko next year.

"She stayed the trip fine," said the trainer.

"She got a nice lead in front and we're pleased with her.

"She's run well and, when the leader got to her, she ran on again.

"She's in the Fillies Mile so we may head there but she's a big filly and next year we'll see the best of her."
