Meeznah Stamps Class on Park Hill Stakes for Frankie
    08/09/11

Meeznah (5-2) bounced back to her best with a smooth win in the DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

Disappointing at Newbury on her previous run, David Lanigan's stable star made amends in the best possible fashion. Frankie Dettori had her well placed in a strongly-run race as the Irish-trained pair Sense Of Purpose and Spin set a good pace, before taking the lead two furlongs out.

Jamie Spencer tried to make a race of it on The Queen's prolific Set To Music, but she was well held and was beaten three and a half lengths at the line, with Polly's Mark third.

Dettori said: "She was a bit flat at Newbury, but she ran a track record time at Goodwood before that, so it took a lot out of her. Today she was always travelling like a winner and I never saw anybody else."

Lanigan said: "I was a little bit worried that maybe I'd gone to the well once too often just after Goodwood where she broke the track record. Frankie was pretty sure that the ground at Newbury was loose on top and they finished strung out like two-mile chasers.

"We gave her a full check-up, freshened her up and she did two bits of work. She's a hard filly to judge because she never shows you a whole lot in her home work. I was worried coming into it, but she got her ground today and showed what a nice filly she is.

"She could run on Champions Day, or in France, and there's also the Melbourne Cup - the trip would be no problem as she stays all day. There's a lot to decide but this has been the plan all year. I would love to keep her in training next year but it's up to the owners."

Michael Bell, trainer of Set To Music, said: "Jamie said she was travelling too well and did too much in the first mile and a quarter. Future plans will be decided. She's not in that race (Qipco British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes) at Ascot, but that's possible."
