Harry Cobden set out to make all on Southfield Stone who, despite his fluent fencing, was headed by Coole Cody turning in.

However he jumped his way back to the front two out and battled on well up the hill to score by a length-and-a-half.

7/4 favourite Pileon made a series of mistakes and trailed home last of four.

The winner is set to head to the Paddy Power Gold Cup next and Sky Bet Head of Sports PR Michael Shinners said: "Southfield Stone battled on strongly in what looked a decent novices’ chase. It looks as though his next assignment will be the Paddy Power Gold Cup where we have introduced him into our betting at 16/1."
