Donald McCain's nine-year-old Minella Drama had previously chased home Jetoile 12 months ago when the fences in the home straight were omitted due to low sun. This year, with all obstacles in place, Minella Drama led all the way under Brian Hughes, securing the rider's third win in the race following victories on Forest Bihan in 2019 and Riders Onthe Storm in 2022.
Competing off a 6lb lower mark than last year, Minella Drama won by a length and three-quarters from Hitman, who also finished second in the £80,000 event in 2022. Ahoy Senor, ridden by Derek Fox, came in third, while 2-1 favourite Stage Star, who had underperformed in his last two visits to Aintree, finished fourth.
