The Nick Williams-trained For Non Stop oozed class from the outset, on his first start for 226 days, and could not have won the Betfred Monet's Garden Old Roan Chase at Aintree more easily.

Noel Fehily quashed bitter memories of a horror fall in the Grand National that ruled him out for almost six months as he made a jubilant return to Aintree, steering the seven-year-old home.

Fehily broke a leg in the fall from State Of Play and had been back just a fortnight to the day as he steered the Nick Williams-trained gelding, 4-1 joint-favourite, to the smoothest of triumphs in the day's feature.

For Non Stop made a big move rounding the homeward turn and had reeled in long-time leader Stagecoach Pearl approaching the second-last. Fehily conjured a great leap out of him at the last and the combination pulled 23 lengths clear of the staying-on Wishfull Thinking.

The jockey said: "I came back two weeks ago after a long time off. It takes a bit of time to get back to your very best, but I'm in better shape now and feel good. I can hardly believe the last time I was here I left in an ambulance."

Of For Non Stop, Fehily added: "It was a very smart performance. He's probably an improving horse."

Williams said: "Each year he seems to get better and this flat course and the strong pace suited him.

"His Cheltenham form is not as good as elsewhere, but as the BetVictor Gold Cup closes on Tuesday it has to be an option. I think two and a half miles is his best distance."
