Swinburn Wants Camelot to Race in the Arc
    17/09/12

Former jockey Walter Swinburn believes that Camelot should take part in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe next month.

Swinburn won at Longchamp himself on All Along back in 1983 and now believes that Aiden O’Brien should run his famous horse in one of racing’s biggest events.

Camelot of course failed to secure the famous Triple Crown in the Ladbrokes St Ledger on Saturday, as he was defeated by Encke at Doncaster. This defeat denied him writing his name in the history books and becoming the first horse to win the famous treble since 1970.

The O’Brien trained horse had previously been one of the favourites for the Arc, but bookmakers had put him down the list recently as they wait for an official announcement.

It is quite ironic that the colt being tipped as one of the favourites now is a Triple Crown winning colt from another country – Japan’s Orfevre.

Swinburn is adamant that Camelot should now race in the Arc though, which you can bet online with BetVictor to try and back a winner.

He said: “They’ll know where they are in a week or so but I’d love to see Camelot run in the Arc. I’d be begging Aidan to go for it.

“My gut feeling is that he was a classic non-stayer. He pulled into the race. Encke accelerated through the last two furlongs and he just plugged on.

“He travelled well in the race, which you’d expect of a horse of his class and he came there with every chance but he almost jinked when Joseph (O’Brien) asked him to quicken.”Not many people would argue that Camelot’s jockey, teenager Joseph O’Brien was out-classed by some brilliance by Mickael Barzalona on Encke in the St Ledger, and that could be a concern for his father, Aiden as will know that if Camelot does go into the Arc – they must get everything spot on to win.

It is certainly a huge decision for Aiden O’Brien to make and if he chooses to race in the Arc, it will only add to the excitement for what should be a thrilling race.
