Pears Hoping My Arch Can Hit New Heights in totesport.com Cesarewitch 07/10/10 Trainer Ollie Pears is optimistic that My Arch can crown a superb season for his handler with victory in the £160,000 totesport.com Cesarewitch on Champions’ Day at Newmarket, Saturday, 16th October. The historic two and a quarter-mile heritage handicap has been on the agenda for the talented eight-year-old all season and he warmed up for his autumn assignment with a rallying neck success in the two-mile Sky 432 Handicap on Newmarket’s July Course on 7th August. He is currently a 10/1 chance with totesport. Pears revealed this morning: “My Arch is in very good form and the totesport.com Cesarewitch has been the aim for him all year. I was very pleased with his win at Newmarket in August and it has always been the plan not to run him for 10 weeks ahead of the big race. “He has his back done regularly and, touch wood, all his problems are behind him at the moment. He couldn’t walk two days before he was supposed to run in the Ascot Stakes but he was cantering on the day of the race, so we are hoping that nothing goes wrong this time. “He did a sharp piece of work over five and a half furlongs this morning and he was only just getting warmed up at the end. He is best when he is fresh so we will just keep him ticking over until next Saturday. “I hope that it keeps on raining between now and next weekend because he is a stayer and he just slogs on through softer ground. He was only just getting going at the end of his last run and he had his ears pricked at the end, so the trip will be no problem. “Kieren Fallon was going to be on board again but he couldn’t do 8st 4lb so Franny Norton will ride. He has never ridden him but he will be watching the DVDs and he is very much looking forward to taking the ride. “Soft ground and a high draw would be ideal. He looks set for a good run and I am not surprised that he has been well supported.” The market for the totesport.com Cesarewitch is headed the Dermot Weld-trained Universal Truth, who scored in a maiden hurdle on his latest start at the Galway festival in August and is a 7/1 chance with the race sponsor. Fellow Irish challenger Admiral Barry, from the stable of Eoin Griffin, is a 9/1 chance following a comfortable victory in an amateur riders’ handicap at the Curragh on 11th September. totesport spokesman George Primarolo commented: “The totesport.com Cesarewitch is always one of the big betting handicaps of the year and this year’s race will be no different. With high-class handicappers from both the top Flat and Jumps yards at the head of the market, we should be treated to another cracking renewal. “My Arch has been very popular in the Cesarewitch market having halved in price from an initial 20/1 to his current quote of 10/1, and looks set to run a massive race for his up-and-coming handler.”
