Ryan Moore To Be Crowned Champion Jockey At Windsor

Ryan Moore (181 wins up to the end of racing, Monday October 30) will be crowned champion Flat jockey for the first time at Royal Windsor on Saturday, November 4, as the 2006 Flat turf season reaches its traditional climax with the November Handicap fixture, this year transferred from its usual home Doncaster, which is currently undergoing a £32 million facelift.
The 23-year-old, whose phenomenal season has seen him land his debut Group One success aboard Notnowcato in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August, will become the youngest rider to win the Flat title since Pat Eddery secured the first of his 11 championships in 1974 aged 22.
Appropriately, Eddery will be on hand to present the new champion Flat jockey with his trophy, with members of the Moore family, including trainer father Gary and jockey siblings Jamie, Joshua and Hayley, plus mother Jayne and grandmother Lorna, in attendance.
Moore will also receive £10 for each winner ridden from sponsors
Racing UK, the Racing Post and the Jockeys Association to go towards
his choice of charity, the Injured Jockeys Fund, while the second-placed
jockey, currently Frankie Dettori (130 wins up to the end of racing,
Monday October 30), will receive £5 for each winner partnered to
go to a designated charity.
The 2006 champion Flat apprentice title, which has developed into a
thrilling contest that looks like going right to the wire, with Stephen
Donohoe (42 wins up to the end of racing, Monday October 30) leading
James Doyle (39 wins up to the end of racing, Monday October 30) by just
three winners, will also receive a trophy to be presented by Pat Eddery
and a cheque for £500, with £250 going to the runner-up.

November Handicap (3.40pm), run over an extended 11 furlongs, is the highlight
on a cracking seven-race card at Royal Windsor on Saturday, November
4. Among this year's 47 entries is Mark Johnston's progressive three-year-old
Peppertree Lane, looking for his sixth victory of 2006, and it looks
as if a maximum field of 20 could go to post.
The action kicks off at 12.45pm, with the EBF Maiden Stakes over six furlongs for two-year-olds, while three Listed contests, the £28,000 EBF totesport 0800 221 221 Gillies Fillies' Stakes (1.50pm) over 10 furlongs, the £28,000 Celebrated Artists Piran Strange Paints for SPARKS Stakes (2.30pm) over an extended 11 furlongs, and the £28,000 totescoop6 Wentworth Stakes (3.05pm) over six furlongs, provide the quality on an excellent afternoon's racing.
