Diamond Green To Join Ballyhane Stud Roster
09/10/06

Diamond Green, an unbeaten two-year-old and classic miler at three, has been bought by Joe Foley to stand at his Co Carlow-based Ballyhane Stud for the 2007 breeding season. He will stand for a fee of 8,000 euros.

From a Lagardere family full of high class performers, Diamond Green is by leading sire of sires Green Desert.

He was unbeaten in all three of his starts over seven furlongs as a two-year-old - he followed two impressive wins at Deauville with a decisive victory in the Group 3 Prix la Rochette at Longchamp.

At three he ran a close second in the Group 1 French 2,000 Guineas, Group 1 Prix du Moulin and Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot, where he was a neck runner-up to Azamour with English and Irish 2,000 Guineas winners Haafhd and Bachelor Duke behind him.

He ended his Classic season with a Timeform rating of 121, the same mark achieved by this season’s leading first-season sire Invincible Spirit, another son of Green Desert.

Joe Foley said today: “Diamond Green is an extremely good-looking horse, very much in the mould of his father, the hot sire of sires Green Desert, and was unbeaten at two and was one of the best milers of his generation.

“We have had a great response to him so far and he looks set to be owned by a very powerful syndicate including some of the leading European breeders such as Barouche Stud, purchasers of the top-priced yearling in Europe this year.”
