Well Armed Targets UAE 2000 Guineas
09/02/06

Clive Brittain's Well Armed is one of 16 runners from six countries lining up for the US$250,000 UAE 2000 Guineas (Gr.3) at the DNRD and DATEL sponsored racemeeting at Nad al Sheba Racecourse on Friday evening.

A son of dual Breeders' Cup Classic (Gr.1) winner Tiznow, Well Armed was an impressive winner for Brittain on the opening day of the 2006 Dubai International Racing Carnival over 1,400 metres on the dirt.

Frankie Dettori partners Godolphin's Testimony, who was three and a half lengths runner-up to Well Armed last time out.

Mike de Kock and Weichong Marwing team up with the former Aidan O'Brien charge Where's That Tiger, a son of Storm Cat who will be having his first outing at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.

Richard Hills takes the ride on the Ismail Mohammed-trained Unification, winner of his last two outings at Woodbine in Canada including a three quarter length win of a Grade Three over 1,700 metres on the dirt.

Eddie Ahern, who rode Stagelight to victory in the race a year ago, partners the Brazilian raider Azul da Guanabara, trained by Luis Singnoretti, a winner of his maiden on the dirt in Brazil before finishing third in the Brazilian 2000 Guineas on turf. His last run was a third place on turf in the Gran Premio Jockey Club de Sao Paulo (Gr.1) at Cidade Jardim Racecourse in Brazil.

Michael Kinane is aboard the Ian Jory-trained Gold for Sale, a four length winner of the Argentine 2000 Guineas (Gr.1) in September on his last run and winner of his five career starts.

Mick Channon, who runs Wovoka in the UAE 2000 Guineas (Gr.3), saddles the Ted Durcan-partnered Compton's Eleven, already a course and distance winner on the Carnival's opening night, in the US$110,000 DATEL Stakes over 1,300 metres on the turf.

Dettori, who opened his 2006 account aboard Pentecost last Thursday, teams up again with the Andrew Balding-trained son of Tagula in the US$175,000 DNRD Trophy over 1,777 metres on the turf.
