Philip Hobbs Salutes Captain Chris
Philip Hobbs' Grade One-winning chaser Captain Chris has been retired, the 12-year-old having won nine of his 23 starts, earning over £400,000 in career prize-money.
Hobbs told At The Races: "He's retired. It's not bad, but he had a minor recurrence of a suspensory problem, he'd need another year off and realistically that's not very sensible at his age."
Hobbs added: "After Rooster Booster he was the best horse we've ever had here, it was phenomenal how good he was at his very best and to win the Arkle going left-handed, probably losing a length or two at every fence and still winning well, was amazing.
"He was definitely better going right-handed. He was only just beaten in the King George and to win a race like that would have been fantastic, but he was very, very good."
