O’Brien Eyes Derby Options
26/05/11
Aidan O’Brien has revealed he has the choice of five options for the Derby next month – but insists he will not make the decision on the final line-up until the eve of the race.
Roderic O’Connor, Sevile, Recital, Memphis Tennessee, and Treasure Beach are the trainers excellent free bet options for the second classic of the season , all of which he describes as “strong”.
Son Joseph O’Brien rode Roderic O’Connor to victory in the Abu Dhabi Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh earlier this week which could stand him in good stead for the race at Epsom next month, but his Father insists nothing is finalised yet.
"Roderic O'Connor, Seville, Recital, Memphis Tennessee and Treasure Beach are the five strong options," said O'Brien said in an interview at the Breakfast With The Stars event at Epsom.
“Those things haven't been discussed yet but it might be possible. Early next week we will get down and sort out jockey arrangements but the first thing we have to do is get the runners sorted. “he added.
Keiren Fallon is receiving free bets backing him to ride Recital in the second classic of the season having ridden him to victory in the Derrinstown Stud Derby trial, and O’Brien revealed he should be in line for a ride on Recital in the Derby, but there were plenty of other options, should Fallon decide otherwise.
“Obviously the plan at Leopardstown with Kieren sitting on him was he might be available for us in the Derby." He commented. |
