Saint Nicholas Abbey New 10-1 Favourite for Derby
28/09/09

William Hill have halved St Nicholas Abbey’s odds from 20-1 to 10-1 favourite for next year’s Investec Derby - following his easy win in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Aidan O’Brien trained colt, who was sent off the 2-5 favourite for the race, never looked in danger and eventually went on to win the race by a comfortable three quarters of length.

It was Aidan O’Brien’s tenth win in the Beresford Stakes, and the Ballydoyle handler has already earmarked the Derby as St. Nicholas Abbey’s main target for next season.

William Hill’s spokesman Tony Kenny said “Sea The Stars won the Beresford last year, and I suppose it’s inevitable that people are going to draw comparisons between the two” He continued “It’s a bit too early to say how good he’ll be as a three year old, but at this stage you’d have to say that he is a worthy favourite for next year’s Derby”

Investec Epsom Derby 2010: (William Hill Bet) 10-1 St Nicholas Abbey (from 20-1), 14-1 Chabal, 16-1 Coordinated Cut, 20-1 Al Zir, Azmeel, Cape Blanco, Joshua Tree, Viscount Nelson, 33-1 High Twelve, 40-1 Steinbeck (EW ¼ odds 1,2,3)
