Bambino Fever claimed victory, handing trainer Willie Mullins his 14th triumph in the prestigious contest, while jockey Jody Townend—sister of the renowned Paul Townend—sealed her first-ever success at the Cheltenham Festival.

The victory was particularly sweet as Bambino Fever became the first mare to win the race since Relegate in 2018.

Having already impressed with two wins, including a dominant success in the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival, the 4/1 second favourite proved her worth under a patient ride from Townend. In a race where outsiders filled the placings, it was Heads Up who finished second, with Shuttle Diplomacy in third and Caballero Cliff fourth. But it was Bambino Fever’s turn to shine.

Townend, beaming with joy after her historic triumph, said: “I’m beyond cloud nine. I can’t believe it—it will take a while to sink in. I was in front quite early, and as we came down the hill, I was watching the big screen, hoping no one would come and steal it from me. It was a huge relief when I crossed the line.”

Reflecting on the race itself, Townend added: “I got a perfect position, which I couldn’t quite believe. Normally in that race, things don’t go as planned, but she was fantastic. She travelled so well, and when we turned down the hill, she really came on the bridle for me. It couldn’t have gone any better.”
