High Class Hero is set to join stablemates Ballyburn and Dancing City at next month’s Cheltenham Festival after shedding his maiden tag over fences in determined fashion at Punchestown on February 20.
Ballyburn remains the red-hot favourite for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, with Dancing City viewed by many as his chief rival. But High Class Hero, who proved his ability at Grade One level when pushing Dancing City all the way at last season’s Punchestown Festival, is now firmly in the picture.
The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old had to settle for second behind Shannon Royale on his chasing debut on New Year’s Eve, but there was no such slip-up this time. Sent off the 8-15 favourite, he found plenty when it mattered, fending off the persistent Loughglynn—another Mullins contender—by two and three-quarter lengths.

Bookmakers took note, with Coral trimming his Brown Advisory odds to 25-1 from 33-1, and Mullins himself confirmed Prestbury Park is the likely next stop.
“He did it nicely,” said the champion trainer. “The ground was testing after all the rain, but he handled it well. He’s in the Brown Advisory, and that looks the obvious route for him.”
As for Loughglynn, Mullins suggested he would stay closer to home: “We’ll find something else for him.”
