James Bowen wasted little time in adding to his Cheltenham Festival tally as Jingko Blue produced a decisive front-running display to land the spoils.

Sent off the 9-2 favourite after significant support during the morning, the Nicky Henderson-trained seven-year-old was always travelling with purpose in Bowen’s hands. Fresh from opening his account in the closing race on day one, the rider was quickly back in the spotlight, dictating matters from the outset and never looking in serious danger thereafter.

A strong Irish challenge formed in behind as the field turned for home, but Jingko Blue had matters firmly under control. Still moving strongly approaching the final flight, he lengthened impressively up the Cheltenham hill to secure a third winner of the week for the Seven Barrows operation.

Henderson said: “He’s not the most straightforward horse, he’s always a bit creeky, but he ran a good race in the Relkeel here on Trials day and to go and win a race like this he’s earnt his corn for the year anyway that’s for sure.

“It will keep Tony Barney (owner) quiet for at least a day, then on Friday, god knows what happens (with Jango Baie in the Gold Cup)!

“This horse just couldn’t jump fences and he was untidy enough over hurdles to be honest, but he was good today and it was a great piece of riding, because to make the running wasn’t in plan anything!

“Even James just said he ended up there and he’s actually quickened away at the end. Nobody else got into it in the end.”

In unfortunate circumstances, HMS Seahorse, trained by Paul Nolan, suffered a fatal injury in a fall at the final flight.
