Who are the Favourites to Win the Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup?

Indeed, the Irish horse, who is trained by Gordon Elliott, has continued to improve with each meet it particulates in and continues to blow away the rest of the field, including the likes of Minella Indo and Delta Work, although the Down Royal race did see him finish second to Frodon; something many would not associate shame with, though.

Last year’s National Hunt Chase champion, the Gold Cup will certainly be interesting for Galvin.

Minella Indo

As mentioned, Minella Indo did not put a foot wrong in the Gold Cup last year under Jack Kennedy and the horse will be aiming to make it a hat-trick of victories after winning the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle in 2019.

Things have been far from plain sailing since last year’s win, though, but the De Bromhead-trained horse has to remain a candidate for Gold Cup honours this season.

Protektorat

Many continue to hold Protektorat in high regard given the performances of this horse, especially after enjoying a successful campaign as a novice.

With his improvement in racing, many have kept him quiet with the idea of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in mind, and it will be interesting to see if it is a move that pays dividends. It will be the biggest test of his young career, but he is fresh and has a history of doing well at the racecourse, so who knows what will happen when the race takes place on Friday 18 March.

Al Boum Photo

Al Boum Photo will be participating in his fourth consecutive year at the Cheltenham Festival and Willie Mullins appears to have a lot of faith and trust in this horse, although many would argue that is not a bad thing.

Many expect the 10-year-old to continue to power through the field and make up for his third-place finish in last year’s event, especially as he was crowded out in a pocket during a crucial moment of the race. He is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
