Dermot Weld's patient approach with Silver Concorde paid off as the six-year-old led home a clean sweep for Irish runners in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.

Silver Concorde carried the purple colours of Dr Ronan Lambe, and he is bred in the purple, too, being by top Flat sire Dansili out of a daughter of exceptional miler Ridgewood Pearl. That breeding encouraged Weld to buy the horse as a yearling for €27,000 at Goffs.
The winning trainer, who also saddled the strongly-fancied fifth horse Vigil, said of Silver Concorde: "The first time we ran him in a bumper he was third to [yesterday's Stan James Champion Hurdle winner] Jezki, and next time he was second to a good horse of Jim Bolger's [Cul Baire], but after that we had training problems with him and he was a big weak horse.
"It's taken time and he loves dry ground. Two weeks ago at home on soft ground there was very little difference between himself and Vigil. On dry ground we always believed in this horse - we were worried it would be too dry for Vigil today.
"We don't have many jumpers these days, but it's fun to have a couple of good ones. We've been unlucky here in the past with seconds in a number of races, but I also want to put in a mention for Robbie McNamara. For him to do 11st 5lb told you something. He gave him a beautiful ride.
"The Grade One bumper at Punchestown is a possibility, and before you see him over hurdles he is likely to run on the Flat."

MULLINS LOOKS TO NEXT YEAR
Trainer Willie Mullins was satisfied with the performance of Shaneshill, who finished the one and a half length runner-up behind the eventual winner Silver Concorde this afternoon.
The 7/2 favourite was always travelling sweetly for jockey Ruby Walsh but couldn't quite match the winner's finishing kick in the final stages.
"He's run a perfectly good race," said Mullins.
"All of mine have run well and they will all make nice novice hurdlers next season. The second has travelled nicely and we may look at Punchestown for him if he comes out of this ok."
Joshua Lane finished a further length and three quarters behind Shaneshill and trainer Eddie Harty felt his five-year-old could have finished closer with a clear run.
"It was a grand run," said Harty.
"He's travelled nicely and we might have finished closer as he's been stopped a couple of times. It gets a bit tight turning for home in this race and he's had to go round them a bit.
"We're still happy though and I'd have thought that will be it for the season. He'll go over hurdles next year."
