Henderson Leads The Pack At The Festival
14/02/13

Trainer Nicky Henderson saddled a record seven winners at The Festival in 2012, taking his total successes at the meeting to 46. This enabled the master of Seven Barrows to become the most successful trainer of all time at The Festival, overtaking Fulke Walwyn's longstanding record of 40 winners. Henderson has taken The Irish Independent Leading Trainer Award at The Festival nine times in total (sharing it three times).

Reigning champion trainer Paul Nicholls has been leading trainer at The Festival six times and is fourth on the all-time list with 32 successes, despite only saddling his first winner at the meeting in 1999.

Ireland's most successful current trainer at The Festival is Willie Mullins, who has 24 winners to his name after three successes last year and is within two of the Irish record-holder Tom Dreaper.

Jonjo O'Neill, based near Cheltenham, also sent out three winners in 2012 and moved onto 21 victories at The Festival.

THE IRISH INDEPENDENT LEADING TRAINER AWARD

The Irish Independent Leading Trainer Award is decided on the number of winners trained over the four days. If there is a tie, the decision will go down to the number of second places. If there is still a tie, the number of third places will be taken into account and the award will be shared if there remains a tie after that.
