cheltenham festival / 2011 news / By Marc Owen-Banks ValueChecker Poquelin to Gain Ryanair title from Albertas Run Poquelin looks set fair to take this titiel from Albertas Run who attempts to land the double on the third day of the Festival.
Paul Nichols charge has had the same preparation in coming here by way of the Paddy Power gold cup and then winning the, what was called the Vote AP Gold Cup in December. He won the same race the previous year but did so off a mark some 12lbs higher this time suggesting there has been some significant improvement over 12 months. In comparison Albertas Run has been below par and is in the region of 6/1 to regain his crown for Jonjo O'Neill. Behind Poquelin at Aintree in October he has failed to finish two subsequent runs and can not be backed with confidence. Kalahari King has a form book full of good runs in great company including here at the festival in the Supreme Novice Hurdle, the Arkle and the Champion, he has place claims but always look short of whats required to win here. J'y Vole represents Ireland who have had a great week. Third in this race last year, I think thats the best this consitent Willie Mullins horse can do in 2011 Voy Por Ustedes has been interestingly supplemented for this race which I am sure connecitions wouldnt have done if they didnt think they could get a return on their money, but after retiring from Alan Kings yard and then suddenly appearing at Seven Barrows for Nicky Henderson, the 2007 Champion Chase winner is always popular but should need this run and may appear again at Aintree where he has always been better than here at Cheltenham. Recommendation: POQUELIN (win) KALAHARI KING (ew)
