All Cross Country Races to be Shown Live on Channel 4 Cheltenham today revealed that a new sponsor, or sponsors, is being sought for its three races over the unique Cross Country course. The Cross Country Steeplechase series features races at The Open (in November), Boylesports International (in December) and at The Festival in March. The latter race will be shown on Channel 4 television for the first time in 2009. Peter McNeile, Director of Sponsorship at Cheltenham, said: “In a perfect world, we would like to have a single sponsor for the whole series, but we’d be happy to entertain enquiries from organisations wanting to sponsor any of the races individually. With live terrestrial TV coverage for all three of these events, they offer exceptional value and exposure, with the sponsorship cost for one race starting from around £20,000.” Cross Country Steeplechasing has brought a new and exciting dimension to racing at Cheltenham and allowed a new type of equine hero to emerge. The most notable recent example of this has been Spot Thedifference. Silver Birch was second in the Festival race in 2007 before going on to victory in that season’s John Smith’s Grand National. |
