Teaforthree Connections Hoping for Good Grand National Ground
|
Rebecca Curtis saddles a horse that has been rested since a disappointing run at Haydock, having finished sixth in the Hennessy Gold Cup back in December, with the trainer reporting that her charge is in good shape for the Aintree contest.
"Teaforthree has scoped clean and I'm happy where we are with him," said Curtis.
"I am pleased we haven't given him a run since Haydock and he goes there fresh and the better ground will help."
Curtis enjoyed her first Grade 1 winner at the Cheltenham Festival last month when At Fishers Cross claimed victory in the Albert Bartlett, although ironically the trainer wanted softer ground for her hurdler on that day.
At Fishers Cross runs in the John Smith's Sefton Novices' Hurdle on Friday and will appreciate any cut in the ground, with the going likely to be good to soft as we approach the three-day meeting.
Teaforthree is currently a 16/1 chance to win the 2013 Grand National, with On His Own the heavily backed favourite to win the race for a second time for trainer Willie Mullins.
Meanwhile, the Welsh have another lively chance in Cappa Bleu, with the eleven-year-old having run fourth behind Neptune Collonges, Sunnyhillboy and Seabass twelve months ago.
Mick Fitzgerald is one man that likes this contender and he told the ATR website: “There’s no getting away from the fact that horses who’ve done well in the National often go back and perform creditably again and Cappa Bleu ran a cracker to finish fourth last year.
“The form of his latest run, when he was second behind Vino Griego at Ascot, has been thoroughly franked and he has to be on your short-list for at least another place.”
