Trading Talk.. This week's round up of the key sporting events

Racing

The key racing action of the weekend takes place at Kempton Park with the Racing Post Chase.

Buyers of Supremacy's will be pleased to hear that only one joint-favourite has won in the past seven years, but will not be happy that no horse bigger than 9/1 has won in the last decade.

It's no surprise that with the classy winners of this race, the winner tends to come from the top of the handicap. In fact, only two of the last ten winners have carried less than 11st.

Buyers of winning distances usually rely on soft ground, but three of the last six renewals have been run on good ground and they have brought winning distances of 3, 4 and 17 lengths.

Rugby - England vs. France

England take on France in Paris on Saturday and the hosts will be looking for revenge following their 14-9 defeat in the Rugby World Cup semi-final back in October. Sellers of French supremacy at 5 will be hoping that England can record their second win on French turf since 2000. Loyal English backers will point to France's recent poor form at home. After they beat New Zealand in Cardiff, Les Bleus have lost two of their last three games in Paris and they were lucky to escape with a win against the Irish two weeks ago.

Sporting Index predict that France will win by between 5-8 points and this makes plenty of sense when you consider that three of the last four winning margins have been by between 5 and 8 points. However, it was only two years ago when the French demolished England by a record 25 points. Buyers of total points at 44 will take encouragement from the average points in England's opening two Six Nations games reaching 44. There were also 47 points in France's last game against Ireland, but contests between these two sides tend to be lower scoring, which will please sellers at 41. Five of the last six totals have been under this figure.

Many punters will be looking to trade the different halves, as the key facet of both sides' performances in this year's Six Nations has been their ability to break quickly out of the blocks. England scored 16 out of their 19 points in the opening period against Wales and again scored the vast majority of their points in the first half against Italy (20 out of 23). France have also scored many more points in the first half than the second in both their games, which underlines how quickly the supremacy markets for individual games can change in this year's competition.

Football

Man United vs. Newcastle

The football game that will have the traders at Sporting Index quaking in their boots is undoubtedly Newcastle v Man United at St James's on Saturday. United steamrollered the Magpies 6-0, with all six goals being scored in the second half, including a Ronaldo hat-trick. Buyers of total goals at 3.1 will be out in force again and the opening fixture of the season between these two has seen six goals or more three times since 1999. Interestingly, the subsequent fixture has always had three or more goals and the last time this happened was in 2003 when United, having already beaten the Geordies 5-3 at Old Trafford, went on to wallop them 6-2 in the North East.

Sellers of United supremacy at 1.4 will be hoping that Kevin Keegan can exact some revenge on his old adversary Sir Alex and will be encouraged by his club's battling display to salvage a 2-2 draw in the fixture last season. However, Newcastle have conceded 11 goals in their past four games and with United putting four past Arsenal last weekend, buyers of United at 1.6 will be praying for another demolition job. Astonishingly, the Red Devils have scored two goals or more in all of the past eight games against the Magpies and, in the last four contests, five players have scored at least a brace: Ronaldo, Tevez, Scholes, Solskjaer and Rooney - music to the ears of player goal minutes buyers throughout the land.

Carling Cup final

Exactly a year ago when Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 in the 2007 final, the game descended into chaos towards the end of the match and three late sending offs meant that those who had bought bookings at around the 52 mark had made an incredible 93 times their stake.

There could be another bloodbath on Sunday as Spurs and Chelsea have a habit of winding each other up, even without Mourinho. Three of the past five games have made up 60, 90 and 105, so buyers of bookings will be hoping that something stokes the fire once again.

Chelsea have an excellent recent cup record, winning both last year's domestic cups and buyers of the Blues supremacy will be hoping Avram Grant can win his first trophy for the club. They have only been beaten once in the League Cup Final in five attempts, whilst Spurs have lost two of their five appearances. However, Juande Ramos has an incredible cup record, only ever losing ten times in 74 cup games in his managerial career and guiding Sevilla to five trophies in his two year stint there.
