Slade Power (72 points), trained in Ireland by Edward Lynam, has taken a clear lead in the Cartier Sprinter category following his decisive victory in the Group One Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 12. This was his second top-level success of 2014, with the five-year-old having landed the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, also over six furlongs, at Royal Ascot in June. His closest pursuer in the Cartier Sprinter category is stable companion Sole Power(40), who triumphed in the five-furlong Group One King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot but bypassed the Newmarket race due to the rain-softened ground.

Sandown Park on July 5 played host to one of the all-aged middle-distance highlights of the season, the Group One Coral-Eclipse over 10 furlongs. The honours went to the William Haggas-trained Mukhadram (72), who is now joint fifth in the race for Cartier Horse Of The Year and second in the Cartier Older Horse category. Mukhadram has been on the go since the early part of the year, having begun 2014 by finishing second in the Group One Dubai World Cup at Meydan in March, but his races have been well spread out.

Evergreen eight-year-old Cirrus Des Aigles (124) is still unchallenged at the head of both the Cartier Horse Of The Year and Cartier Older Horse following three Group One victories in 2014.

There are no significant changes in the standings for Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt and Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly Awards. Kingman (112), hero of the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes, continues to head the way in the former, with a narrow advantage over Investec Derby and Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby victor Australia(92). Kingman is now set to head to Glorious Goodwood on July 30 to contest the Group One QIPCO Sussex Stakes.

Avenir Certain (64) still holds the lead in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category, following her victories in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas) and Prix de Diane Longines (French Oaks). Her closest pursuers include QIPCO 1000 Guineas winner Miss France and Investec Oaks scorer Taghrooda, both 48 points. Rizeena, trained by the veteran Newmarket handler Clive Brittain, is also on 48 following her Coronation Stakes win and excellent second in the Group One QIPCO Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on July 11 to the year-older Integral (52).

Leading Light (56) remains on top of the Cartier Stayer category, following his victory in the Group One Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, where he defeated The Queen's Estimate(24). Terrubi and Brown Panther are also on 24 points, after finishing first and second respectively in the Group Two Prix Maurice De Nieuil at Longchamp on July 13.

Harry Herbert, Cartier's Racing Consultant, commented: "The next wave of top-class meetings - at Ascot, Goodwood, Deauville and York - is about to start sweeping over us.

"Outcomes for the 2014 Cartier Racing Awards remain wide open and we are perfectly positioned for an enthralling second half of the season."
