Ruby’s Comeback Delayed Until Ayr Top jockey Ruby Walsh should be fit to ride favourite Harry the Viking in Saturday’s Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday after announcing he would be back in action on Friday.
Ruby missed his Grand National mount at Aintree last Saturday after taking a crashing fall from Zarkandar earlier in the day and it was thought he would be riding today (Wednesday) at Cheltenham. But he told the website he would instead return at Ayr on Friday. Ruby said : “I’m still a little stiff and I think two more days’ rest in the sensible thing. While it’s a good meeting at Cheltenham, the priority is being 100% fit for Ayr this weekend, and then Punchestown next week.” And Ruby was upbeat about Harry the Viking’s chances adding; “He ran a cracker to come second in a four miler at the Cheltenham Festival and must have a great chance.” Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond, a huge horse racing fan, is also attending Saturday’s meeting which is expected to attract a crowd of more than 16,000. The going at the track is currently good, good to soft in places.
